The farm was originally planted in 1959 by Florence's husband, Edward Marigi, and throughout the years, they have not introduced newer, hybrid varieties, such as Ruiru 11 and Batian. Instead, their farm is comprised solely of SL28 and SL34 trees which are highly regarded for their quality potential and the classic and beloved Kenyan coffee flavor profile. That being said, recent testing has started to challenge what we understand about varieties and plant genetics in Kenya, but either way, this coffee carries hallmark Kenyan flavors. In the cup we find flavors of mango, blood orange, and pink peppercorn, alongside a tart red acidity that reminds us of hibiscus, raspberry, and rhubarb. There is also a subtle floral quality that reminds us of magnolia blossom and white tea.

We're also excited to share this coffee as it is the first single farm Kenyan coffee we've had on our menu. Typically, the lots we purchase from Kenya are comprised of cherries collected from many smallholder farmers, that are then processed at a centralized washing station. Coffees from many larger estates in don't tend to have the rigorous picking, sorting, and processing protocols that the quality-focused washing stations have. However, in recent years, we have seen more single producer and estate coffees that are exceptional. While each type of production and producer is important to support, we hope to see a continuing focus on quality with Kenyan estates, as it's evident the ceiling can be very high.

Price Breakdown:

Our Total Cost: coming soon
Packaging, labor, and weight loss: coming soon
Green Price: $6.75/lb
FOB Price: coming soon

Farm Gate Price: coming soon

Importer: Red Fox

*We roast on Tuesdays and ship the following day; order deadline is 7:00 am Tuesday morning; local pick-up orders will be ready on Fridays after roasting

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0706/4040/2712/files/website-boxcopy-Recovered-Recovered_dd7f971d-f6a8-4ade-af2f-79337a854dce.jpg?v=1788291353
guatemala-america-alejandro
Guatemala | America & Alejandro

Region: Canoguitas, Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Process: Washed
Variety: Caturra, Bourbon, Catimor
Altitude: 1,500- 1,900 masl
We Taste: Apple Butter, Vanilla, Praline

America Perez Ramirez and her father Alejandro Ramírez Méndez farm across four parcels in Huehuetenango, at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 1,900 masl. They grow caturra, bourbon and catimor varieties under chalum and grevillea shade trees, and they grow corn and beans for household use on the land as well. In the context of the history of Ethiopian coffee, which has largely been sold through the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange, the idea of seeing single-farmer lots is still a relatively new concept. Individually held export licenses have provided greater agency for producers to market and sell their own coffee, while improving the traceability of Ethiopian coffee. However, it is still common practice for these producers to buy cherries from their neighbors, process it, and sell it in order to have more consequential volumes of production to export. The Tokuma producers differ in that their lots are comprised solely of coffee that they grow. This model creates lots of the utmost traceability, while allowing the Tokuma producers to keep their cost of production low.This gives them a unique opportunity to keep their pricing very competitive, while maintaining high profit margins. This degree of control over their own production is rare and cutting edge for Ethiopia, and we believe strongly that their work together with Osito is a model for progressive and sustainable purchasing in Ethiopia.

Every year, the bulk of our purchasing in Ethiopia has been directed towards Mohammed Aba Nura of the Tokuma group, but unfortunately his harvest experienced severe issues, and so this year, we pivoted our effort towards Abdo Abamecha and Mensur Abahika, both of whom we have also purchased from in the past.

Price Breakdown

Our Total Cost: coming soon
Packaging, labor, and weight loss: coming soon
Green Price: $5.80/lb
FOB Price: $4.30/lb
Farm Gate Price: Same as FOB price because Tokuma group coffees are exported by the producer.
Importer: Osito

*We roast on Tuesdays and ship the following day; order cutoff is 7:00 am Tuesday morning

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0706/4040/2712/files/website-boxcopy-Recovered-Recovered_f78f52d3-816d-417f-8f01-d6826037cc2f.jpg?v=1790462696
kenya-riakiberu-aa
Kenya | Riakiberu AA

Region: Murang'a, Kenya
Process: Washed
Variety: SL28, Ruiru 11, Batian
Altitude: 1650 masl
We Taste: Pomegranate, Huckleberry, Rosehip

This lot comes from around 700 smallholder farmers in Murang'a county who delivered their cherries to the Riakiberu washing station. In the cup we find deep flavors of pomegranate, huckleberry, pineapple, nectarine, and rosehip.

Price Breakdown:

Our Total Cost: coming soon
Packaging, labor, and weight loss: coming soon
Green Price: $6.75/lb
FOB Price: $5.18/lb

Farm Gate Price: 117 KES per kg cherry

Importer: Red Fox

*We roast on Tuesdays and ship the following day; order deadline is 7:00 am Tuesday morning; local pick-up orders will be ready on Fridays after roasting

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0706/4040/2712/files/website-boxcopy-Recovered-Recovered-Recovered-Recovered_ae8539a4-ebaf-49d2-88ce-3ac8784696e2.jpg?v=1792108944
guatemala-erwin-argueta-1
Guatemala | Erwin Argueta

Region: Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Process: Washed
Variety: Caturra & Bourbon
Altitude: 1,450-1,550 masl
We Taste: Fuji Apple, Brown Sugar, Nougat

Erwin is a third generation coffee farmer and is highly motivated and curious with his work. He is actively involved with the Cup of Excellence, achieving a 1st place and 2nd place spot in two categories in 2024 and another 2nd place in 2025. He uses natural traps to catch coffee borer beetles, and uses a leaf spray to protect against coffee leaf rust. He has natural water treatment wells that he uses to treat the washing water in three phases to make sure that he’s not polluting his soil with acidic waste-water. He’s also working with the local council on an agro-forestry project to conserve native trees on his farm. Erwin has experimented a couple of times with making his own worm compost fertilizer, but has not yet had success, which is evidence that the transition to fully organic practices is often not an easy, nor quick process. We're very happy to have his coffee back on our menu, this year with the intention of also featuring it on our single origin menu in two different lots: washed and natural. Although we love the unique profile of washed coffees from the Agaro and Jimma region, we have found that these coffees often aren't as intense and fruited as coffees from southern Ethiopia (eg: Guji or Sidama). This lot was a bit of surprise for us and may be our favorite coffee from Agaro we've had. It still stands firmly in its regional profile, with the classic, waxy oolong or white tea flavors we associate with Western Ethiopia, but the volume is also turned up on the fruit and florals with a very pleasing, juicy texture. In the cup, we're finding flavors of apricot, peach, and persimmon alongside aromatics of osmanthus, jasmine, and oolong tea.

Abdo Aba Mecha is a member of the Tokuma group in Agaro, Ethiopia, which is a group of small farmers who are pushing the boundaries of coffee production in Ethiopia in terms of traceability and producer autonomy.

Green Price: $5.75/lb
FOB Price: coming soon
Farm Gate Price: Same as FOB price because Tokuma group coffees are exported by the producer.
Importer: Falcon

*We roast on Tuesdays and ship the following day; order cutoff is 7:00 am Tuesday morning

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0706/4040/2712/files/website-boxcopy-Recovered-Recovered-Recovered-Recovered_bae29cc5-62c1-4c3c-a1e8-242b62ca0774.jpg?v=1793367687
