This community lot comes from multiple producers around the Rio Juanambu in Nariño Colombia. Each contributing lot is evaluated many times to ensure that it meets both a strict set of physical standards (including moisture content and water activity parameters) and cup quality standards. Creating these larger community lots like Juanambu is a great way to create market access for smallholder farmers whose production may be too small for it to make logistical sense to separate out as a single producer lot, but who are producing coffees of great quality nonetheless. Through purchasing various tiers of quality levels all with lowered risk of price volatility, our partners at The Coffee Quest are able to provide the confidence for these producers to make adjustments to their production and processing to help improve their coffees over time. This coffee is an excellent example of how collaborative effort can create a more sustainable supply chain by providing economic support to groups of producers as well as creating an excellent coffee! We’re currently loving this coffee for its juicy plum and cherry qualities and it’s deep, caramel-like sweetness.
