This is our second year purchasing from Kamwangi in Kirinyaga. They were the highest paying factory in Kenya in the last harvest, which allows them to produce high quality at volume, as nearby farmers who meet their qualifications are eager to work with them. Last year, the Kamwangi factory also introduced solar dryers which helps create a more predictable and stable drying environment, ensuring that coffees are dried slowly and evenly. In recent years, excessive rain and sun (largely due to climate change) have both been culprits of negatively impacting quality in Kenya. However, the solar dryers have already proved themselves to be an effective tool against unpredictable weather, and the results speak for themselves (and will continue to as we expect these coffees to hold their quality against fading). We've been enjoying the vibrant acidity and juicy sweetness of Kamwangi. It's highly complex and we love how the flavors change as the coffee cools, but we've been tasting red currant, pomegranate, hibiscus, honey, and oolong tea.
