Region: Murang'a, Kenya
Process: Washed
Variety: SL28, Ruiru 11, Batian
Altitude: 1650 masl
We Taste: Pomegranate, Huckleberry, Rosehip
This lot comes from around 700 smallholder farmers in Murang'a county who delivered their cherries to the Riakiberu washing station. The combination of the fertile volcanic soil, the predominance of the SL28 variety in this area, and the methodical processing of the station create an exceptional example of Kenyan coffee.
The syrupy body, complexity, and overall structure of this coffee remind us of the "classic" Kenyan profile that it much less common these days. Ever since tasting the sample, we've been eagerly awaiting its arrival. In the cup we find deep flavors of pomegranate, huckleberry, pineapple, nectarine, and rosehip.
