Maria's gesha comes from San Vicente Yogondoy within the Sierra Sur region of Oaxaca. The farmers here are mostly indigenous Zapotec; many of them are under the age of 30 with young coffee trees as well. The farmers primarily grow Pluma, but we were fortunate to have the chance to purchase a gesha separation from a single producer from this year's harvest.
Though Maria's coffee is washed and only undergoes a short 18-24 hours of fermentation in wooden tanks, it is quite fruit forward and tropical. It has a waxy, rose-like floral quality and is underpinned by a molasses-like sweetness.
